Antigonish 4th Nov 1848
Sir,
agreeable to my instructions from you
I inspected the Indian Lands in the County of
Sydney and found no person holding possession of any part of them nor any trespass
committed on them except some timber that has been cut,and as far as I could ascertain the man who cut it obtained permission from some of the Indians and paid them more or less for it.
Two men named Donald Chisholm and John Chisholm are building a saw mill on the lot marked D on Mr. A Thomson's plan, on which Peter Batistin the Indian resides. But I understand they have got a Lease of it from this Indian for a period of twentyYears, Sanctioned, they say,by Rev'd Colin MKinnon and Bishop Fraser.
I am Sir ,Your most obedt Servant
Alexander Campbell Depty. Surveyor
