Dear Sir,
I received, the [?other] day, from my Son, Danny, the enclosed account of [?W. OR Mr] Cossits expenses for laying out a Lot of Land formerly assigned to Rosanna and Rachel Power and for which a warrant has, since their deaths, been issued in favor of Hugh Maloney their Grandfather with directions, communicated by [?W. OR Mr] Hill, in a note dated 6th, Octr. 1830 to purpose for Maloney a free Grant, in consequence of a representation made by me, at his request, that a promise of a free Grant to the Children had been given by Sir James Kempt; which was thus intimated in a note dated 20th. June 1827. " I now enclose the abstract of the 23rd May and a warrant for Rosanna and Rachel Power which I was surprised to find, a day or two ago, still in my Office - These children are to have a free Grant - Mr H. W. Crawley will be so good as to pay your fees and charge them in his next account"
I have been thus particular because it will appear in the Abstract for April 1827 that Sir James refused, in the first instance, the petition for a free Grant and the note not being official the Abstract may be the only record to which you can refer.
I take this opportunity to report progress in the Surveys [marking?] for the Indians- The Settlements
