Men in the Mines

A History of Mining Activity in Nova Scotia, 1720-1992

"Londonderry, Nova Scotia, is Now a Mass of Smouldering Ruins"

"This sketch of the Great Londonderry conflagration is by McRitchie, staff artist of the Herald and the Mail, and is drawn from description given by eye-witnesses. (Left) Bird's eye view of Londonderry; (Centre) Catholic Church, burned; (Right) Church Street, the scene of the start of one of Nova Scotia's most disastrous fires." Among the buildings destroyed were many owned by the Londonderry Mining Co. — a hotel and barns, an ice-house and barns, the former residence of the company's general manager and ten vacant houses.

Date: 1920
