HRH Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh

Prince Alfred (1844-1900) visited the Tangier Mines on 19 October 1861. He was able to see the large amount of work done during the summer and how the gold fields were worked. His visit to Nova Scotia was undertaken during his years of service in the Royal Navy; he was named Duke of Edinburgh in 1866.
