Howe had left Anderson in the Tangier gold fields to report weekly to the government at Halifax. Now Anderson wrote outlining the proposed itinerary for the visit of HRH Prince Alfred to the Nova Scotia goldfields. He suggested that the locals meet the Prince in a body at the shore; sing the National Anthem at his approach to the landing; give three hearty cheers on his landing; present him with a small box of gold and quartz specimens; a very short address to be given; march to the diggings; conduct him to Strawberry Hill on new road which would soon be finished; return by Napoleon's path; diggers taking their places in the pits and allow him to inspect their operation; again form and escort him back to the shore.
