Date: 27 December 1831
The Committee of the Halifax Mechanics' Library Association called a Public Meeting for the purpose of forming a Mechanics' Institute. The Meeting was held on the evening of December 27, 1831, - in the school room opposite the Parade, Argyle Street. Doctor William Grigor was called to the chair, and the following resolutions were moved, seconded, and passed by a large majority :
