and yet many were inclined to doubt the possibility of the sound traveling so far.
I did not detect any vibration in the building; and I was accustomed quite often to hearing blasting reports from George's River quarry, where the Dominion Steel Company have a quarry in operation, a distance of 22 miles. I may say the report of the Halifax explosion was about
as loud
as the average report from George's River quarry.
I do not know if I have anything more to add, but my brother, Arthur Dillon, heard the Halifax explosion when down at a place called Black Brook, one mile west of Port Morien. He was gathering coal deposits left from the one time washing-plant," near the vicinity. This will be about eight miles further east than where I was.
Judging by a Government map of the Maritime Provinces in my possession Mira Gut is 197 miles from Halifax and Black Brook , Port Morien, would be
205 m les.
Apparently, in my hearing both reports were of the same viclence but my brother claims the second report not so loud and of a much longer and muffled nature.
There are numerous people in Louisburg, who heard plainly, this Halifax explosion.
