EXPLOSION VICTIMS' CONVALESCENT HOME
Halifax Relief Commission Leases Parker Residence in Dartmouth, There to Care For Persons Slowly Recovering From Injuries
The Halifax Relief Committee have leased the residence in Dartmouth of the late Dr. Parker, for use as a Convalescent Home for persons who sustained, in the explosion, injuries so serious that they are yet in Hospital - the building on Morris Street.
Their idea in thus utilizing the house, which is ideally situated for such a use, is to take the period of [convalescence ] necessarily long, brighter and less tedious than it can possibly be in Hospital in the City and all arrangements have been made perfected for moving over all the patients whose condition makes it possible.
There are a number now in the Morris Street Hospital whose injuries are of such a nature that they will be long yet in mending sufficiently to take up active life again.
One little woman whose fortitude has commanded the admiration of all who have visited the Ward in which she lies, was burnt the whole length of her back literally to the bone, one arm being broken. Rev. Dr. J. A. Clark, who has interested himself actively in her well being, states that in his opinion her case is one of the very worst with which he was familiar. Yet skilled medical, surgical and nursing attention has restored her in fuller measure than seemed possible to those who saw her in the days immediately following the explosion.
Under Dr. Kendall's direction the Parker House is being made ready throughout for the [beneficent ] use to which it is to be put - refreshing, certainly, will be the change from the hospital wards to the altogether delightful environment of the beautiful old place.
Several patients will be take over immediately. The Matron of the Convalescent Home will be Miss Hollies.
