Jessen silver coffee pot

From the estate of Mrs. Annie F. Rudolf. Silver coffee pot with the initials 'D.C.J.' engraved on one side and a crest on the other. The initials refer to its original owner, Dettlieb Christopher Jessen, born in Holstein, Germany on 25 February 1730 and came to Halifax in 1752; soon afterwards proceeded to Lunenburg. He was a commissioner to distribute the farming implements and rations sent out for the early settlers and later became a Justice of the Peace, Justice of the Inferior Court, Registrar of Deeds, Lieutenant-Colonel of the Militia, and Member of the House of Assembly. He was a benefactor of the Church of England and presented the Lunenburg church with a silver paten and two chalices before he died on 12 August 1814.

date: 1781 - London, England
