"School children at unveiling of fountain, Public Gardens, Halifax, Jubilee week, 1897"

The 'Jubilee' or 'Nymph' Fountain commemorated Her Majesty Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, the sixtieth anniversary of her accession. The fountain was unveiled by Ishbel, Marchioness of Aberdeen and Temair, the wife of John Campbell Gordon, 7th Earl of Aberdeen and Governor-General of Canada (1893-98). A huge crowd attended, including (centre foreground) several Mi'kmaq in traditional dress.
