Looters in a department store

V-E Day Riots. Thousands moved from their initial looting on Hollis Street up to Barrington Street. The Halifax Chronicle, 9 May 1945, p.5, mentioned that 'mobsters' systemically destroyed ten blocks and eventually returned to their homes or barracks with shoes, rubber boots, dresses, suits, fur coats, silverware, chairs and radios, and left the area ". . . an undreamed of wreck, a veritable shambles."
