them they will never take them out of the office again, but as the Deputys in the County take such produce as can be had for doing their office it comes easily to the people and the Register is paid by the Deputy's money.
The borrowing money omits value on Mortgage in urgent occasions.
The very great difficulty for a Man in the Country to search the Register's office if at Halifax. A man must go there before he can be certain [certain crossed out] sure the Estate is free from incumbrances which in many cases will be more expense than the purchase money whereas the Deputy in each town can with much more certainty clear up all matters of doubts, he knowing all the people and their circumstances.
The borrowing Money or its value on Mortgage in urgent occasions will take up too much time and expense before the lender can be certain the Estate is free from incumbrances, that the borrower is hurried away to Goal before it can be accomplished and if not the borrower must be at all the expense of the Journey &c. which will be distressing the Distressed and if a lender will not take so much trouble the Man's circumstances is made public which lessen his audit and perhaps in the End. Once his family who might have struggled through the difficulty had the office been at hand.
The old clamous of the people that they are deprived of the privilege promised them by proclamation will be justly and loudly revived, as in the neighbouring Colonies they have a Town Clerk who does the business of registry in Each town. This innovation is also an imposition on the people of this Country, as we are credibly informed that the House of Assembly increased the Fees from 6p to one shilling for each hundred words it was on thy faith and assurance given that offices should be kept in all such County.
