Greeting.
By Virtue of the Power and Authority, in and by His Majesties Commission to me granted to be Captain General, in and over said Province. I do (by these Presents) repose Especial Trust and Confidence, in your Loyalty, Courage, and good Conduct Constitute, and Appoint you, the sd John Winslow, to be Leiutenant Colonel, of the first Battalion of a Regiment, now raising in the Several Provinces and Colonies, in New England, or other His Majesties Neighbouring Provinces, and Colonies for His Majesties Service, whereof I am Colonel and Captain of a Company in the said Regiment, and to be employed in Dislodging the French from the Incroachments made by them within His Majesties Province of Nova Scotia. You are therefore carefully, and Diligently to discharge the Duty of a Leiutenant Colonel, and, Captain in Leading, Ordering and Exercising said Regiment in Arms, both Inferior Officers & Souldiers, and to keep them in good Order and Discipline,and I hereby Command them to Obey you, as their Leiutenant Colonel and Captain, and yourself to, Observe such Rules, and Instructions, as you shall receive from me, or the Commanding Officer in Cheif, for the time being, or other your Superior, according to the Rules, and Discipline of War, pursuant to the Trust reposed in you.
