The Morning Chronicle, 19 March 1912, p.1, reported the Charitable Irish Society celebrated St. Patrick's Day with its usual successful banquet. More than 200 members and guests dined in the Halifax Hotel at "a function that could not be surpassed. While the dinner was elaborate and well served and in itself a treat, the speeches that came afterwards were of the highest order." The banquet also included a musical programme. Felix P. Quinn, the Society's secretary, gave a rendition of Dear Little Shamrock after which he was "compelled" to give an encore.
