The Halifax Herald, 8 August 1894, p. 1, reported Countess Aberdeen was interested in philanthropic, charitable and benevolent institutions. Consequently she visited the Home of the Good Shepherd, Quinpool Road, and the Roman Catholic Orphanage prior to banquet. At the Home of the Good Shepherd, the Countess "expressed the great pleasure she had experienced in seeing the good work being done in rescuing sinning and doless girls from the streets and converting them into useful, industrious, self-supporting and self-respecting women."
