Commemorative monument beside the church: Within these grounds lie the mortal remains of Rev Vincent DePaul Merle, O.C.R. born Chalamont, France October 29, 1768, Ordained April 7, 1798, Died Tracadie — January 1, 1853. France gave me birth, when wafted o'er I sought the sacred solymean shore. To thee Tracadie holy rites I gave, precepts devine and thou to me a grave. 38 priests and brothers of the Trappist Order who served at Petit Clairvaux, Tracadie. 1825-1908 [ his remains were transferred to the convent cemetery to the monastery cemetery in 1903 and finally to the cemetery in Tracadie in 1926. Alphonse J. son 1885-1969, sons Hubert J 1868-1944, William H 1861-1955, Joseph N 1836-1913. wife 1839-1923, daughter 1881-1906, daughter 1870-1954 [5 Deslauriers brothers arrived in the 1790s, each of them had 5 sons]
