African Nova Scotians in the Age of Slavery and Abolition

A young black man, David Dire, indentures himself as a "menial servant" to a Yarmouth farmer, Nehemiah Porter. Dire's term of service was to last for a minimum of four years. After the end of slavery many poor black people became indentured servants in order to survive.
