African Nova Scotians in the Age of Slavery and Abolition

"A general return of the several townships in the province of Nova Scotia the first day of January 1767"

This statistical census reveals that 104 free black people lived in greater Nova Scotia (including Cape Breton Island, southeastern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island). Over half 54 lived in and around the town of Halifax.
