African Nova Scotians in the Age of Slavery and Abolition
"An act to prevent the clandestine landing of liberated slaves..."
The local government greatly feared an influx of recently freed slaves following Great Britain's decision to abolish slavery throughout the empire. The government did not want another influx of black settlers, as had happened 20 years earlier.
