Dear Mr. Uniacke
Mr Francis Webber called upon me and handed to me a letter from you. He wished to converse with me on the matter in dispute between us, but i refused to do so without having a witness present. I may as well explain my reason. You are well aware that complaints had been made against Mr Webber to the Government long before I was placed in charge of Indian Affairs shortly after I entered into office. The Indians from Ingrahams River made a complaint to me about Mr Webber's encroachments on their Lands. I made it a point to see Me Webber and had both Parties together a host of witnesses being present. I [illegible] I had arranged the matter to the satisfaction of both Parties. Mr Webber and myself walked to the Dam erected across the River (The dispute being about the Dam erected by Mr Webber).. His word pledged to me that a certain portion of the Dam which was erected by us should be always kept open. Shortly after this proceeding the Indians again called upon me stating their old complaint. That the River was totally damed across and thereby a serious injury was done to a portion of their land by back water etc. I then thought it my duty to bring [illegible] case to the notice of the Government. Government sent me accompanied by Mr Hendry County Surveyor to Ingrahams River to arrange [illegible]finally
