13th May 1857.

Dear Sir/

I applied to the Legislature last session for some relief for The Indians at Gold River & I understand five pounds was voted to them.

If you will have the kindness to send it to me under cover [?to] {?Mr.] R.D.Clarke I will see that it is applied in the purchase of seed [?&c] while I am here, as it would be of comparative[ly OR &?] little use to them at any other season. I send on the other side a receipt for the amount.
