Government report concerning the scarlet fever outbreak in Hammonds Plains during the fall of 1826 and winter of 1827

The black refugees' poverty and poor housing made them prone to outbreaks of disease. One of the worst outbreaks occurred at Hammonds Plains in late 1826. This outbreak killed between 21 and 60 people. This government report contains a vivid description of the suffering that this disease caused.
