African Nova Scotians in the Age of Slavery and Abolition

James R. Johnston (1876-1915)

Johnston graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1898 and became a well-known attorney at Halifax. In 1909 he was hired by one of Barbara Cuffy's descendants to research the Cuffy property at Liverpool. Barbara Cuffy was the only black person among the original proprietors of Liverpool township (1764).
