African Nova Scotians in the Age of Slavery and Abolition
"Return of the distribution of twenty-five pounds granted by the...House of Assembly for relief of poor coloured people at Preston"
Return gives name of head of household and number in each of 189 families, for a total of 858 persons. Each person received slightly less than one gallon (dry measure) of an unidentified foodstuff, likely cornmeal.
