865. Mrs. Prescott to Mrs. Gideon White. She has delayed writing because "the communication between this & Shelburne is so very precarious that I scarce cou'd expect a letter to get there, we see the Halifax papers every week, and I have never seen an account of a Vessel enter'd from Shelburne since the time of our arrival, until now...We have a pleasant little society here, and a charming Country." She is going to Halifax and would be glad to do any errands for Mrs. White. Holograph.

866. Dr. J. Prescott to Gideon White. Friendly and personal. He deplores the many feuds to which Shelburne seems fated. "For the sake of many others as well as yourself I hope…that ere long a more benign planet will influence your concerns, and that I shall have the satisfaction to hear that peace and harmony are restored to your (at present) discordant Community. I do assure you that the mortification I experienced from seeing half a dozen execrable fools and Rascals carrying every point induced me to quit you, more than any other consideration." Holograph.

867. Dr. J. Prescott to Mr. Crowell, on business and personal matters. "It is unfortunate for me that I sold anything at Shelburne, for had I brought the articles here and disposed of them, I shou'd have been a gainer of at least £ 50 as everything in the furniture way sells enormously high. I think therefore it will be best to send forward the Bedsted. Bookcase &c. unless you have already disposed of them. If you can get them on board the Tender, as she will touch here I shou'd be glad, if not send them to Halifax to the care of my Brother. Mr. John Bingay has a Voice Flute & some Musick-books which I lent him, I beg you will get and forward them also." Recommends mends Mr. Shreve, minister. Holograph.
