636. [Cox & Gracie, agents for the Nelson?] to their agents in Halifax [Foreman, Grassie & Co.?] relative to the brig Nelson. The vessel is now being converted into a brig and will need a new commission, which they wish to obtain, together with some additional certificate from the Admiral or possibly from the Duke of Kent, since doubts have been thrown on the latest capture of the vessel owing to her commission. Directions for them to advertise the sale of the late prize cargo, which will take place at Shelburne within five days of the condemnation of the vessel. Memorandum of articles needed by the vessel. Incomplete.

637. Foreman, Grassie & Co. to their agents Gracie & Cox, in receipt of letter. The Admiral refuses to give the shot they want, because that size is too much used by the King's ships. Forsyth, Smith & Co. are sending the gunpowder. "Pork, Butter & Bread are scarce & high, we shall endeavor to secure the quantity order'd from the sale of the Stores of some Prize Vessels - We hope Captn. Negust will arrive in time with the Bread, as it is very scarce & dear in Halifax...Mr. Campbell will inform you on what day the condemnation of the Prize will be, after which we shall advertize her for Sale, but you must observe that you cannot bring the Goods to Auction until you receive from this, the Decree of the Court, and an order to the Marshall to deliver the cargo into the hands of the Agents." Signed.

640. [Cox & Gracie] to George Leckie, enclosing petition to the king relative to a prize taken into Jamaica by the Brunswick, but previously captured by the privateer Nelson. He is to have the petition and the accompanying letter from Gov. Wentworth properly presented, and direct the proceeds to be paid to their agents in Kingston, Jamaica. [Rough draft.]

644. Benjamin David to Gideon White in England. ''I came in hopes of finding a Conveyance to Boston intending to pass the Winter there, I am however too late - the Winter having Set in, it becomes too hazardous for Smaller Vessels to Attack the Boisterous Bay of Massachusetts. I therefore lay my Account to pass the Winter here - I have found some amusement in being present at the Election of Members for the House of Assembly - the principal opposition has been with Col. Pike & Mr. A. Blecher - at the Close of the Poll a Majority of 3 only appeard in favr. of Col. Pike of course he will be returned by the Sheriff as duly elected - a Scrutiny has however been demanded by Mr. B. & it is thot he will finally succeed in obtaining a Seat in the House - the hottest Contest has been with the Candidates for the County - in which Mr. Wallace & Mr. Hartshorne have been thrown out - Tonge & Morris - with 2 Members from the Country have been returned by a large Majority....the House meet in Feby.- I may therefore find some amusement in attending the debates - it is tho't there will be a push to get in Tonge as Speaker.''
