Nearing Ordnance Wharf, Halifax with crowds waiting, the warship arrived at Halifax on New Year's Day, 1895, on a slightly rainy and slushy day. The vessel was conveying the remains of Sir John Thompson, Prime Minister of Canada, to Halifax after his death at Windsor Castle, London, 12 December 1894. He was buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, 3 January 1895.
