HM armoured cruiser Good Hope, under Rear Admiral C. Cradock, moored in Halifax Harbour, NS, in autumn of 1914, shortly before leaving for the Pacific Ocean. The vessel was sunk with all hands, near Coronel, off the Chilean coast, while in action against Germans. Among those lost were two Halifax men, sons of H.St.C. Silver and Capt. Fred A. Palmer.
