Spoils of War: Privateering in Nova Scotia

Governor Sherbrooke's proclamation proposes neutrality to New England

The United States declared war on Britain in June 1812 but officials in both London and Halifax initially hoped to avoid fighting and thus Nova Scotian Governor Sir John Sherbrooke issued this July 1812 proclamation which offered New England a non-aggression pact.
