At this rate of decrease the whole tribe
will be annihilated in 36 years, and
this most melancholy result will inevitably
take place unless effectual measures
are taken to ameliorate the condition
of these unfortunate people.

From the increasing industry
displayed by the Indians under
my charge, in the cultivation of land
since the encouragement given to them by
the Government during the last spring,
I am convinced that judicious means
would finally succeed in making
them farmers and mechanics, checking
the progress of decrease, and bringing
them into a state of civilization.

The total number of acres of
land cleared upon the Indian Reserves
in my district is 239, of this quantity
there were planted last spring
