29 March 1881. Excerpt from the journal of Richard H. Brown, general manager of the GMA at Sydney Mines, mentioning the death of Bob Burchell in the mine. "Boy Bob Burchell (or Cook) was killed in the pit at 3 pm by trying to get on a trip of tubs and falling between them."
