A History of Mining Activity in Nova Scotia, 1720-1992

Located south of Amherst, between Nappan and Maccan in Cumberland County. This image shows high flues, railway equipment and the power house to the far left. Coal was discovered at Chignecto in 1863, first coal shipped in 1864.
