JOURNAL

HALIFAX, N.S.

March 12, 1918

Mr. T. S. Rogers, E. C., Chairman of the Halifax Relief Commission, returned from a trip to Ottawa, with the authority to announce the decision of the Government to grant an additional sum of seven million dollars for indemnification of disaster sufferers. This makes the Federal Grant twelve million dollars.

Mr. F. Fred Pearson, chairman of the Halifax branch of the Massachusetts-Halifax Relief Committee, spoke before both branches of the State Legislature at Boston, and conveyed the thanks of the People of Halifax to the citizens of Massachusetts for the substantial relief provided by them for the sufferers of Halifax.

Admiral Story writes to His Honor the Lieut. Governor, stating that the statements that vessels laden with high explosives have been allowed to anchor in the fairway of the harbour are absolutely false, and asking that the people of Halifax be assured that the Naval Service is doing all that is possible to gaurd [sic] against any further danger.
