Dear Sir: -

We beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th inst. with reference to Dr. McMechan's History of the Halifax Disaster.

About a year ago, Dr. McMechan himself wrote us, and we were unable at that time to offer him any encouragement in the way of publication. Even then, the question of sales was doubtful, but we are assured now that there would not be a sufficient demand for it to pay for the cost of production, which is heavy at the present time.'

We regret, therefore, being unable to make an offer for publishing this either under suggestion one or two, since we cannot see any sale in sight for it.

Yours very truly,
