Gentlemen:-
Doctor Archibald McMechan, a writer no doubt well known to you, has prepared an interesting and authoritative history of the Halifax disaster, applying largely to the first day.
The commission is anxious to have it published, but hesitates to incur the expense. The book, however, should have ready sale, and the Commission wishes to ask you as to the terms on which you would undertake its publication. It is judged that it will contain about two hundred and fifty pages, and there may be from twelve to twenty illustrations.
The edition Contemplated is three thousand, and plate work would be preferable, in case a further edition should be required.
You may make us either of two offers: (1) you to publish the work and control the sale, giving us five hundred copies for distribution; or (2) you do the whole work and wo to arrange for its sale and distribution.
Yours very truly,
Chairman.
