as it seems doubtful whether this history or record is wanted, as it is not settled who are to publish it and as therefore the sale of its publication if quite unsettled, I should like the conditions of my continuing my work but upon a more certain basis.

I am going to ask your commission for a fee of 100$ a month reckoning retrospectively, that is 300$ to the present date.

I make this proposal the more readily as my "office" has incurred no expenses beyond the necessary postage and one account for 3R for type-writing done outside.
