HALIFAX, N. S.

In closing Doctor Ladd said he regarded the glass wounds as most serious and there would yet be trouble from small pieces under the flesh. He told of one instance only yesterday, where thirty pieces of glass were taken from one woman and twenty-nine were located afterwards by X-ray. There is still a large amount of glass in people and some in serious positions and the greatest care should be taken with such cases.
Dr. Ladd said they had a few deaths in the hospital and those that had occurred were mostly from old age. The St. Mary's Hospital had cared for 190 indoor patients and 275 outdoor patients with hundreds of visits.
Relief Units Necessary.
Dr. Ladd said that owing to the existing conditions and the possibilities of explosions, Halifax should be prepared for such emergencies. The United States intended to form Relief Units and he thought Canada ought to do the same. Units should be formed ready to start for any place a moment's notice, and have supplies at hand.
In closing the doctor said it had been a great pleasure for him to have been in the City, and working with people who had only one idea, that of helping others. He said he had found wonderful co-operation in every branch of the work.
"I want to thank you all for working with us and to wish you all a Happy New Year" said the doctor.
Judge Russell thanked Dr. Ladd for his splendid address on behalf of the Club and also Dr. Harris, for the poem. The luncheon closed with the National Anthem.
