"Special mention may be made of the following: the Child Welfare Nurse who proved such a benefit to Halifax during the Summer; The furnishing of rooms at the Cogswell Street Hospital for Officers, where two members visit very week; the Maple Sugar Fund-Halifax Chapters being the first to contribute to it and the Field Comforts, being the most definite work of the Chapter. Since January 31st, 1917, that Committee has done excellent work, having packed and shipped 32,983 parirs of socks, 1575 shirts, 243 caps, 275 scarfs, 185 wristlets, 33 prs. mittens and many miscellaneous articles, such as, cards, soap, notepaper, games, tobacco, cigarettes, towels and housewives. $50.00 worth of tobacco to the Canadian War Association and $50.00 to Capt. Plummer; also boxes to the Royal Canadian Regiment, 85th and 25th Battaions.
"47 boxes containing Xmas stockings and parcels, mostly from outside places have been packed and shipped.
"Since Oct. 1917 400 lbs. of wool have been purchased and sent to women in the country and already 275 prs. made of that wool have been received. The Field comfort boxes in the shops, with the exception of one or two, have not received as many contributions as the first year.
"The newspaper committee has fowarded 3276 bundles of paper, each bundle containing five or six, making a total of over 19,000, and as there are only three members on this Committee, one can realize the work entailed. Letters from hospitals and soldiers show how this has been appreciate.d
"Members have worked two afternoons and one morning every week at the Council House, making Pneumonia Jackets and sewing on War Relief Work. They did disaster relief work and also furnishing hundreds of garments giving $130.00 worth of flanelette. Work has also been done for the Red Cross one day a week at the Technical College. All work being supervised by the member who had charge of these days for the year.
