HALIFAX, N. S.

Nova Scotia Responded Nobly With Relief For Halifax.

So much has been published by the Halifax press - and rightly so - of the organized work of the American Red Cross Society, and so little publicity has hitherto been given to the relief work of Nova Scotians, that the public sometimes wonders if our own people have measured up to the standard of efficiency required to meet the heavy demand made by the Halifax disaster on their executive ability and energy. One has only to get into touch with the Red Cross organization and relief committees at the scene of the accident to realize how nobly the citizens rose to the occasion. The city fathers, business men and women everywhere responded promptly working to the utmost of their strength and ability in relieving the sufferers.
Many who have been financially ruined, with hearts bowed down with sorrow at the loss of loved ones, have put self aside and are working day and night almost in the effort to assist those in greater distress.
While it is perfectly just and proper to give unstinted praise to the larger and more thoroughly organized effort yet the fact must not be overlooked that Nova Scotia doctors, nurses and Red Cross workers at the first call for "first aid" immediately rushed relief to Halifax.
