"I call upon you to observe the season of Lent this year with a fixed resolve to make a real turning to God in more than form.
Hearty, definite, reverent, must be our prayers, and real must be our desire to live more nearly as we pray.
Then may we hope for the victory, for then the victory would mean not solely victory for our arms, but the honor of our God and the fulfillment of His purpose in the world." -- Archbishop's letter.
.........
It will always be a source of gratification in connection with the recent disaster that both Church and Sunday School were able to continue without interruption. St. Paul's was the only church in Halifax where a service was held on the Sunday following the disaster. The services were held at the usual hours and there was not a Sunday that it could be said that neither Teacher nor Scholar came. The sessions have been held in the Church building, where teachers have done wonderfully in getting their classes together again.
..........
The following have given greatest service in visiting North End streets, reporting the whereabouts and registering the needs of members of our congregation: Mrs. Bethune, Mrs. Feneity, Mrs. Mathers, Mrs. Elliot, Mrs. Kennedy, Miss Ousley, Miss Taylor, Miss Hoyt, Miss Marshall, Miss McDiarmid, Miss Hall, Miss Jubien, Miss Grant, Miss Pyke and Mr. Quinn.
.........
A large number of the congregation took refugees into their homes, and in several instances are still sheltering them.
Nearly everyone has been busy in some sphere. Much district relief work has been carried on by members of the church individually, who had emergency supplies sent directly to then.
Mrs. Bowes has been very active in the relief of needy families and has distributed much help.
Miss Kellogg received through her brother, W. B. Kellogg, contributions and supplies from Lakewood, N.J., and she has devoted her entire time ministering to those who have suffered.
Mr. Patton received a bale from relatives in New York.
Much relief was received at the Rectory and given to special cases of need. Emergency clothing has also been received by Miss Munro, Mrs. Huestis and Mrs. Elliott, the latter has given much time in connection with St, Paul's relief work.
Effort of St. Paul's in Relief.
