Halifax Disaster
F.O. number 45 d/t 9/1/18.
In accordance with F.O.45,d/t 9/1/18, I beg to give the following particulars as to the services performed by the Officers, N.C.O's and men of the 1st. Regt. C.G.A., on the days immediately following the Halifax disaster, particularly on Dec 6th and 7th.:-

Lieut.-Col. A.W. Duffus, O.C. 1st. Regt. C.G.A., during the stampede from the North and, caused by the reports of a second impending explosion, visited the magazine in the North and having ascertained that there was no danger, did everything possible to spread the news in order to dispel the alarm and get people back to their homes.

Major. A.M. Bauld, Quartermaster, 1st. Regt. C.G.A., remained in the Citadel, and in the absence of the M.O., who was detained attending to the wounded, established a dressing station, and assisted by a Medical orderly attended to the injured who flocked to the Citadel.

Capt. A. McD. Morton, Medical Officer, 1st. Regt. C.G.A., was immediately besieged at his house and attended to the injured as rapidly as possible. He then reported to the Citadel and continued giving medical attention there. In the afternoon he reported to Camphill Hospital where he assisted the other doctors.

Capt. J. L. Allan, Adjutant, 1st Regt. C.G.A., on duty at the Citadel, taking and giving orders.

Capt. W. H. Strachan, Dec 6th, looking after wounded in neighbourhood of Citadel. Dec 7th, In charge of repairs to Union Jack Club building for use as temporary shelter.

Lieut. L.L. Harrison, with the Adjutant's instructions, left the Citadel shortly after the explosion in his car, taking Medical-Sergt. E.T. Morton with him, and medical supplies. He proceeded to the North and giving emergency aid and conveying injured to the Hospitals. He continued this work till 2.00.a.m. on the 7th, and then reported to Headquarters, and during the night took Major. Willis, D.A.A.&Q.M.G. (Halifax) to the various hospitals. At 5.00.a.m. he began conveying nurses and doctors from the terminals to the hospitals, and continued till 9.00.p.m., driving officials and patients to and from wherever required, being continually in his car for 36 hours.

Lieut. O.A. McC. Wilson, was detailed on the 6th for duty at Camphill Hospital where he remained for about ten days giving very valuable assistance.
