PERSONAL NARRATIVE
Margaret Wright.
Second Year student at Dalhousie College.
Stout, black hair and eyes. Florid complexion.
Was in the Ladies' College at the time of the explosion. Thought that the H.L.C. [believed to be: Halifax Ladies College] had been hit. Went to Studleigh about half-past nine, thinking classes would be held as usual. Met girls on the way who told her that there would be no classes. Went to the Post Office and sent card home. Was told by a man that a second explosion was expected, that a magazine was expected to blow up. Went to the Commons, from Cogswell St. and stayed there about half-an-hour. Crowds were coming from all directions. Many only half-clothed. Some in night clothes. Heard a man telling people to lie down flat, in case another explosion occurred. Met Mabel White here, another Dalhousie girl. Learned that there was lots of work to do and went towards Richmond. Mabel White tore up her own clothes to make bandages. They had their pockets full and muffs full. They got iodine at a druggists on Robie St. They met a man, middle-aged cut about his head, who had been bandaged at the Victoria General Hospital. He was staggering and the two girls took him between them and supported him to his brother's house in Gottingen St. near Cunard. He was very much distressed at the loss of his little boy, who had been burnt. Near Wellington Barracks, there was a fire on the left hand side of the street. They dressed two women with adhesive plaster. One was cut on the forehead and the other on the cheek. They got to Rockhead after the dinner-hour, about two p.m. it was so dilapidated they thought it was not inhabited. The windows were broken, the doors smashed in, and the roof broken down.
Student at Dalhousie College, second year.
