HALIFAX, N.S.

PERSONAL NARRATIVE
Cadet Edward Orde.
Home, Ottawa.

Communicated to Director personally at Government House, were Orde was staying December 20th, 1917. Orde lost his right eye. Operation was performed by Dr. Cox of New Glasgow, who informed Director about it in the Halifax Hotel, Sunday December 9th, 1917.

When the explosion occurred he was in the senior gun-room, brushing another cadet. (Mrs. Orde informed Director that when her son recovered consciousness he was still clutching half the brush, somewhere about the Admiralty Grounds). Cadet Brett, who was wounded with shrapnel, carried Orde out of the building.

Note Brett is exceptionally tall and strong, nearly six feet.
Orde was immediately taken off to the hospital by some sailors, who put him on a stray horse which they caught. Orde and Cadet Kingsmill, son of Admiral Kingsmill, were both taken to Camp Hill Hospital. They did not go together. Afterwards they were transferred to Mrs. Kinnear's, 368 Robie Street, which is just across the way, so that they could be easily treated by nurses and doctors.
