his mother. Was turned back from Studley and went to the Golf Links. Returned to Professor Moore's house in LeMarchant St. About twelve o'clock a soldier running and shouting as he ran told them that the danger was over. They returned to 47 Edward St. Received an urgent message from Mr. Hussey to put on warm clothing and come at once to the School for the Blind. They found the sitting-room crowded with injured people, And people busy preparing beds. Three class-rooms were used as a tamporary hospital. There were thirteen children in the nursery. Note. All the pupils of the School for the Blind had been sent out into the yard in the morning and were kept there for two hours. None of the pupils was badly hurt.
Miss Nichols was sent to the Victoria General Hospitak to say that fifty patients could be accommodated at the School for the Blind, and remained there two hours assisting in dressing injuries. Returned to School for the Blind about dusk. Hot soup was served down-stairs all afternoon. Some of the injured had not received any treatment. One woman was cut in the face, arms and body -- was also badly bruised -- only her eyes were bandaged. She looked as if she had been dragged through dirt. A girl of eight with a bandaged face sat without saying a word -- when the bandage was removed the next day it was found that her face had been cut open from the middle of the forehead almost to the end of the nose -- out to the bone. There was a boy with both arms and legs broken also badly cut. Miss Nichols was struck by the patience of the injured children. Questioned if they were dazed she replued that they answered put to them sensibly. Saw Mrs. Hinch, who said she had crawled through cinders for a city block.
