/ stitches were being put in. Miss Maddin thought that the people behaved well because others were about. Gave case of little girl about twelve years of age, with red hair, whose face was cut from the forehead down through the cheek. Miss Maddin held her hand for fear that she would jump when the stitches were being put in. Child thought Miss Maddin was a nurse. All she said was "Is there to be another one, Doctor?" She gripped Miss Maddin's arms and doubled up her knees.
NOTE By the time Miss Maddin left everyone had been attended to. Dr. Irwin went through every ward in the hospital, "Very thorough". "Would take nothing for granted." Was busy chiefly sewing up cuts, and giving hypodermics. Miss Maddin had to hold a lantern, basins etc.
NOTE When Miss Maddin first went into Camp Hill she saw a woman sitting with a child on her knee. She asked Miss Maddin to take the child and wash it.
