ST. JOSEPH'S GIRLS' SCHOOL.
Sister Edevina.
Was in basement with the children of primary department, preparing to go to The Assembly Hall, when the explosion occurred. Was stunned so that she was temporarily blind. Told the children to hold to each other's clothing and the foremost to hold to her. Then she groped her way to the stairway, up the stairs, and out of doors. Knew when she came to the open by the feel of fresh air. Was in open about three of four minutes before she was able to see.
Sister Rita. (Grade 2, ground floor).
Eyes injured -- could not see at the time, but has since recovered. Called the children to
come to her so she could feel whether, or how badly they were injured. Margaret Zwicher led her to those who could not come to her and together they released them from the debris.
Sister Ethelred . (Assembly Hall, class on the stage)
Large doors, (four of them, about 28 feet high) fell on the children. A little girl named Fudge helped the sister to extricate the children who were pinned down. Three children killed here.
Sister Maria Cecilia. (Principal, room on second floor.)
Floor fell through to next room. All rescued. Sister Maria Cecilia was imprisoned between floor and the ceiling, which had also fallen, with debris from the attic on top. Was not hurt. Cecilia McGrath, one of her pupils, was late and was watching the fire from the clothes-room window. Thought that perhaps she had better tell the sister about it and turned to go
