Mr. Slaney
Ex-farmer. Now at Rope-Works. Was on top of old factory. Boy on road shouted. "Look at the fire!" Mr. Slaney and several others climbed on main roof. Saw steamer "coming up" in a blaze. Watched for five minutes or so. One "blaze of power," then another, then a third, and instantly a big black ball shot into the air,"clear 1000 feet, I reckon." Roof began to cave in. Descended and saw wounded streaming out of Rope Works.

Mrs. Walker, Dawson St.

Saw explosion. No clear impression, says, "ship went up like black cloud and busted."

Two Unknown Women, Tuft's Cove.
Said "Just after explosion, things like boxes went bursting up the Basin."

Mr. Joseph Keddy, Dawson St.

Was on short when explosion occurred but has no clear impression to give.

Mrs. Percy Soller, Dawson St.

Husband a soldier. She is from Scotland. Says she "ain't never seen any movie so awful." Her little boy was feeding chickens and called to her to come and look at the fire. She, together with Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. Moir, and Mrs Walker, all of Dawson St. went down to Windmill Road beside Emmanuel Church. Puffs of white smoke, ship burst into flame, then it was "like rockets at the Exhibition."
