Personal Narrative.
Miss M. E. Doane, Truro.

On December 6th, she was on her way to college from 22 Coburg Road, where she boards with Mrs. Rankine. She was not prostrated by the shock of the explosion, but a man called Campbell, a cripple, living in the same house was knocked off his chair by it, "Thought it a Zeppelin". Knew there would be no classes and returned to 22 Coburg Road. Met woman in hysterics about fate of her husband, an employee of Furness, Withy, named William Carney 23 Coburg Road. M.D. and Jessie Campbell started for Furness Withy's in order to pacify Mrs. Carney. About twenty minutes to ten they noticed crowds running from Water Street towards the Citadel. It was impossible for them to get through. They thought the people were in a panic. A "crier" came along, she thinks it was a soldier, who told them of the danger of a second explosion. Then they ran up Sackville Street, up the Citadel, down the other side, scaled the fence of the Public Gardens, crossed the Gardens, scaled the fence a second time and emerged on Spring Garden Road. Found 22 Coburg Road empty. Packed grip and went out to find the people. Found that she had taken blotting-paper instead of insurance papers. Other contents rolls (to eat) and a cameo brooch. In the street saw an excited woman from the North-End crying that her two children were lost. They were in their bare feet and had been taken to 24 Coburg Road. She was carrying a couple of men's overcoats a money box and

"She thought she was going to a picnic".
