old Mrs. Beuree, and Mrs. Fisher died in hospital. On his visit to the hospital found it quiet except for the passing of attendants, nurses etc.
Visited Camp-Hill Hospital on December 7th, "an awful sight". Saw only two of the larger wards. All faces bound. Odor bad--"like a shambles". Found Mrs. Brodie "as black as mid-night". This due to the black rain which fell for ten minutes after the explosion. She was all wet through. This occurred on Union St. about on a line with the point marked on Roome St. by Colonel Simmonds as that where he saw the sea-weed. On the same day Mr. C. got roll of tarpaper, carried it to his house on his shoulder, used it to block up windows. Was assisted by guest employed in the Dockyard.
