Director
Halifax, N. S,

then back to his car, at Cornwallis St. She had remembered that she had not bought a hammer and started back to Farquhar's for it. A man stopped her at the City Club and got her to take three men to North St. While standing at the curb in front of the City Club a load of dead bodies was taken past her. There must have been dozens of them. The feet were sticking out of the back of the motor truck. She saw a soldier in an automobile with a dreadfully cut face--was sure both eyes were gone. She took the men to North St. and then started for home with her tarpaper and nails. Had gone about a block when she noticed two returned soldiers whom she knew. One was very lame. She stopped and took them in the car. They had walked from Pine Hill Hospital to Richmond to help, and were exhausted. This was quite late in the afternoon and they had been working for a long time and were tired out. She took them home with her. Deposited her tarpaper and nails and went back to town. There seemed to be plenty of help by that time so she went back home and she and her sister and Miss Tozer (who also [wor] works in the Nursery office) helped Mr. Castell to board up the nursery as well as they could. They went to bed "very late." At six o'clock on the morning of the 7th, Mr. G. E. Boak called Miss C. on the telephone and asked her to go up to Brunswick St. to get a family and take them to Mrs. William Dennis's, 163 Coburg Road. Mr. Wood, Mrs. Dennis's father went with Miss C. Miss C. did not know the name of the family. She found Mrs. Dennis there with an old lady and a younger one. The old lady was hurt and so wrapped up with blankets etc., that she could hardly be seen.
